INTRODUCTION TO AIX
This course introduces the AIX operating system, the AIX file system, the vi editor, printing and some administrative tasks.
Although it is a basic introduction to the operating system, it does provide more than just an overview to many of its features.
Audience
Delegates with little or no previous AIX experience who will be working within an AIX environment.
Prerequisites
A general understanding of computer concepts and keyboard skills.
Duration
3 days, hands-on (5 days if shell scripts included).
Course Objectives
On completion of this course (unless content is tailored to match specific requirements - see COURSE CONTENTS below)
the delegate will be able to:
- Understand the history and ethos behind AIX
- Use the basic features of the AIX environment
- Understand the structure of the AIX filesystem and the commands used to create and
manipulate files and directories
- Explain the reason behind connecting one or more programs together to provide functionality
- Use the text editor vi
- Use the Korn shell command interpreter but also be aware of other shells
- Use filename generation metalanguage
- Understand the use of grep
- Use command recall and history
- Manipulate processes
- Control foreground and background tasks
- In addition to the above, write shell scripts (This can also be run as a separate course.
